Tim Ankenman
Architect | AIBC | MRAIC | M.Arch. | AIA
Founding Principal

Tim Ankenman is the founder and principal of Ankenman Marchand Architects. He received his Masters of Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture where he studied under notable architects such as Thom Mayne, Frank Gehry, Eric Owen Moss and Ray Kappe. In his year abroad he lived in Lugano Switzerland where he studied under Luigi Snozzi, Mario Botta and Martin Wagner. He also worked for various architectural firms in Montreal, Vancouver, Switzerland and Los Angeles prior to starting his own practice here in Vancouver.

Tim is well known for his award-winning innovative architecture, rezoning work, heritage restoration and urban design work throughout B.C., Washington State, and more recently Ontario and Mexico. Throughout his 40+ years in the architectural, development and construction industries, he has overseen the design of a large variety of project typologies including mixed-use, artist studios, adaptive repurposed buildings (including a large, well-recognized heritage portfolio), restaurants, pubs, hotels, breweries, Cohousing, high-rises, urban & resort planning, plus a wide variety of housing genres.

Mr. Ankenman chaired the Whistler Design Panel for 5 years, and has served on the White Rock and Surrey Design Panels for close to 10 years. He has lectured at Simon Fraser University, the Urban Development Institute, and the Greater Vancouver Homebuilder’s Association. Tim has been a board member for Heritage BC Board of Directors for the last five years and has a long list of honours and awards for his achievements.

Francois Marchand
Architect AIBC
Principal

François Marchand began his architectural career in Quebec after completing his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Montreal, receiving his professional designation. He worked for several well-esteemed firms as a member of the Ordre des Architectes du Quebec, on a variety of projects including a water treatment facility, cultural centre, retail stores, a public library and alpine condominium developments in the Laurantians before moving to Vancouver in 1994, joining Ankenman Marchand Architects.

As the managing Principal, François ensures the smooth running of the firm. His primary focus and responsibility is to provide guidance and advice to the Associate Architects and technical staff on all aspects of our projects. He oversees the production of working and construction drawings and documentation and field reviews, with an exemplary attention to detail. François has developed and maintains close working relationships with the various City and Municipal officials throughout the lower mainland.

Our Team

Afshin Banafsheh is an Associate and Project Manager on the AMA team. Holds over 25 years of experience and has led many projects both in Canada and overseas. He has contributed design and project leadership to a series of high profile projects such as Central City Brewery, Red Truck brewery, and Cannabis Facility Kwantlen University. His artistic eye, combined with technical precision, brings design excellency to his projects.xcellency to his projects.

Cassandra holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Science and a Diploma in Architectural Building Engineering Technology. Cassandra has many years working in residential and mixed-use projects and has special experience in the design of childcare and early learning spaces. Cheryl loves architecture for its ability to combine different disciplines and ideas into a cohesive design. Her many years of experience in design, construction administration and attention to detail allow her to anticipate design challenges early on. She is always ready to offer her expertise to the beginning phases of design. Daniel holds a Diploma in Architectural Technology from Montreal and an Architectural Design and Building Technician Diploma from Vancouver. He is committed to sustainable design along with innovative construction techniques and procedures. His four years in the trade brings a methodical approach to the demand for well designed high-density dwellings, infrastructure and green space synchronicity.ors

Daniel Dupuis
D.E.C. Arch. Tech | Building Technologist

Daniel is a highly experienced and passionate Senior Architectural Designer & Project Manager with over 20 years of experience of which 10 of those years have been in Vancouver. His career started in South Africa in architecture that then let him to become a property developer in South Africa. He has extensive experience in client relations, contract negotiations and executing creative and practical solutions to all of his projects.

 

Daniel Martins
Project Manager

Daven is passionate about wood design architecture that responds to the surrounding site. He has experience working in various projects ranging from duplexes to high-rises. He completed his Bachelor of Architectural Science and a Diploma in Architectural and Building Technology. Dimitar has over 25 years’ experience in architectural practice, with a strong building design skills. During his professional career he has been interested in how technology can better serve the Architectural industry. Jin is a knowledgeable Senior Technologist with over 10 years of experience in the field, and is extremely well versed in constructing complex details and has demonstrated this ability on multiple projects for Ankenman Marchand. Her portfolio features diverse and eclectic projects including but not limited to commercial, residential, mixed-use and heritage establishments all around British Columbia.

 

Jin Zhang

Rachael is an intermediate level project manager that has been working in the industry for over 7 years. Her experience from BCIT’s Architectural and Building Engineering Technology Diploma Program inspired her to focus on the technical side of Architecture; from working drawings to construction administration. Her interest and experience in these phases are her main management focus on many of Ankenman Marchand’s residential projects.

Rachael Cheung,

Sinead is an experienced project manager who has worked on a variety of exciting multi-family, mixed-use and heritage restoration projects. She is involved in all aspects of project development, from schematic design through to contract administration and is highly skilled using Revit Architecture.
