About this Project

The Vancouver Cohousing project is Vancouver’s first cohousing initiative, part of a rapidly growing design philosophy that combines the autonomy of private dwellings with the advantages of shared resources and community living to support happier, stronger communities. Leading this first of its kind, community-oriented design challenged us to apply our knowledge of sustainable architecture and multi-family architecture to a new context. We drew from the experiences of experts across North America to learn the best practices of community-oriented design.

Our final design features 29 privately-owned, fully equipped homes and two rental units. 6,500 square feet of indoor common space bring co-housing principles to life, providing a community kitchen, dining room, and lounge, activity rooms for children and teens, office areas, two guest rooms, a yoga studio and rooftop gardens. Outdoor facilities, including ground-level gardens, workshops, a courtyard and play area encourage year-round community building.
